Why Creamy Layer should not be excluded for Higher Education?

Many wrote me, "Chella, how are you going to write an article with the above heading!?". I told them it is not about just writing, it is all about applying thoughts and hearts! It is not about morality.. but about practical insights on socio economic and cultural understanding of this great Indian subcontinent.

Read the following facts.

* BSE, (Mumbai Stock Exchange) set up in 1875. 3500 companies traded every day, no Dalit owned company traded in 1875, none in 2005.

* CII (Confederation of Indian Industry), set up around 1895. 57,00 member organizations, and 80,000 individual members, no Dalit member till now.

* ASSOCHAM (Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India), set up in 1920. one lakh individual company membership, no Dalit company member.

* FICCI (Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry), set up in 1927. 1,500 corporate members, and over 500 chambers of commerce, no Dalit member in 1927, none in 2005.

* IIC (India International Centre), set up in 1962. With 4828 individual, and 296 corporate membership, no Dalit member in 1962, and none in 2005.

All the above facts are saying one thing cdlearly. Dalits are poorly represented in this bodies because we could not create industrialists, business leaders, enterpreneurs from the opressed class.

To change this scenario we must allow a few rich or second generation educated people to study in IITs, AIIMS and IIMs, not only in UGs but also in PG, so that they can start their own companies, hospitals and business houses so that the above situation changes in near future. We can not give CAPITAL to start business/industries directly ( and it wont be effective without education) ... and in the recent knowledge based economy MONEY WILL FLOW, once they have better access to higher education... by the way of FUNDING, ANGEL INVESTORS etc etc.

So we request Hon Arjun Singh , Hon Dr. Anbumany Ramdoss and Hon Mr P.Chidambaram to look into this arguement so that creamy layer should not be excluded in the scheme of Reservation/ Affirmative action.

Yes absolutely. There should be no exclusion of the creamy layers.
SOme facts. In Karnataka the general student with a rank below 540 did not not a Medical seat, while in the reserved category, those with ranks of 40,799 got in, securing 2.75 in Physics, 6.5 in Chemistry, 8 in biology(out of 60),
while a General category student with scores of 34.25,41,48 respectively in PCB, could not secure a seat. While in ENgineering even reserved category students with a rank of 60,079 could get a seat with a score of ZERO, 3.5, ZERO. in PCM. Way to go. Reservations defenitely doesnt affect the quality of merit.

Ok srinivas! I wont disappoint you! I am a fighter here so i am mixing some rhetorics here and there but i am stuffed with understanding of the issue well! see u on monday

This is because the only aspiration of a reserved candidate in institutes like IIT is to secure a job somehow (here I am not talking of those backward class people who come through general quota. They are the ones who really deserve respect for throwing away the crytch offered to them and standing on their own feet.) Most of them perform so miserably in acads that they are not sure of securing a job even after studying in IIT. One can think of entrepreneurship only when one is sure that he has enough capability to secure a job, should that venture fail. And unfortunately, this doesn't apply to the reserved caegory students. So much for giving somebody something which he doesn't deserve!

Whoever has written this article is probably the most senseless indian in the country. Not only are you throwing the country to dogs, but you are also making sure that India won't ever rise up again. People achieve satisfaction only when they fight & succeed, not when you give them everything ready & all they have to do is walk in & claim victory. I sincerely hope that people like you are thrown out of the country. That I think, is the only way India can rise up & progress.

Ok, for most ppl joining thru the reserved category, the ultimate dream is to get a Govt job somehow, they do not think beyond, and hence do not rise beyond. Once a beggar, always a beggar.

Chella, U r such a genius. By having reservations for people, we can have Dalit owned companies listed on the BSE. Wow, what a solution!!!!!!
U r taking about 2 different issues. Let us assume all Ur facts are right. Then how will reservations solve the problem??? Whatever happened to common sense. Have special financial packages to aid 'Dalit' enterprenuers and talk of some constructive steps.
By the, coming from TamilNadu, U must have heard of a certain Shiv Nadar, CEO of HCL. He is a billionaire and is an OBC. He did Not need reservations to make it big. But TamilNadu still has reservations for Nadars. Shiv worked hard nad he got the fruit. Unfortunately our Pro-Reservationsist friends have forgotten something called Hard-Work. They want success to be reserved and without putting in any hard-work. Until and unless somebody works, he cannot come up. U can give him reservations or whatever U want. By the way how many successful Dalit enterprenuers has 60-years of reservation brought????
Reservation is killing India, especially the poor and downtrodden. It is structred for the rich and the lazy.

What does Mr. Chella have to say about 'merit' in Karnataka by the way?????
SOme facts. In Karnataka the general student with a rank below 540 did not not a Medical seat, while in the reserved category, those with ranks of 40,799 got in, securing 2.75 in Physics, 6.5 in Chemistry, 8 in biology(out of 60),

For someone who mentions about 'applying thought and heart' this presentation of statistics (why creamy layer shouldn't be excluded) sounds totally illogcal.

"BSE, (Mumbai Stock Exchange) set up in 1875. 3500 companies traded every day, no Dalit owned company traded in 1875, none in 2005."

P1) How Dalits can own companies, just because someone is dalit?.

P2) Communally Dalit references those people who are at the bottom doing menial jobs. Dalit is a term that refers similarly.

P3) The above logic (in quotes) is equivalent of saying if you translate it. In all those companies, not a single one is owned by laborers (replace dalit with laborers here). How can laborers own companies, If one owns a company how can he be a laborer in the first place. They will entrepreneurs right.

P4) Entrepreneurs are business people and that will make them Vaishyas in our communal set-up right. That is those who indulge in business as opposed to those who are pushed to do business.

P5) In any country/society/community there must be some people who do business and there must be some people who do menial jobs and some who are warriors and priests and so on ... This is a REALITY in any community. Whether you have oppressed or not.

P6) Advanced nations like Europe/US and so many all have labor population and they have rich people, entreprenerus. They dont give stupid statistics like no laborers owning companies in the first place.

P7) Regardless of whatever happened in history (for ex., while vs. black) in US, they enshrined in constitution something called EQUALITY to make sure such things are not repeated and everyone gets equal opportunity as in the opportunity to come up in society. People dont lose intellect when they are socially oppressed. So they compete and are coming up in their own intellect as everybody does (whether white or black).

P8) In India the oppressed community (so called) were not denied education. Before 100 years or so there was no formal education system in india. The contention now is denials of education. When the constitution (indian) enshrines equality and implements equality to give everyone opportunity on their intellect everybody is gonna benefit. Regardless of their community.

P9) Whatever happened in the past, we have to move on. If you say you are fighting for social justice, then reverse discrimination is also injustice. So basically when the things change in the future the discrimination will start again who is ever is up and commanding a that time.

P10) The whole thing is Enshriing equality in constitution. People will come up using their intellect. Ensure legally no body is discriminated in any ways (religion, rich, poor, social up/down, handicapped, sexual orientation, sex and so on...) that makes sure that the guys comes out top is on intellect level. This is the right way to go about it. Instead of removing someones else opportunity equal justice should bring up everyone. It is like a balance you put less weight in one place the other comes up and vice versa.

P11) In 100 years or so everyone will be succeeding whether we like it or not with proper economic and social policies. The good thing about hinduism is the scriptures are not mandating different laws to be enshrined in constitution legally, even so if it is practiced there is no rule or need to follow it. That being the case and people given tangible and intangbile benefits should be able to come up on their own without any problem at all whereever they stand.

Chella..with this article u have actually shown how u're least bothered for the underprivileged and how poor is ur level of concern for them...because the people who actually need it never even get to know that there are reservations for them..and Sons of IASs,Govt. Officials(who've managed to get there thru reservations)..are the one's who take advantage of these reservations. And actually the ones who are downtrodden for whom u purport ur concern..are left as they are..Think about it...

Keep it up Chella, We need your help in keeping Dalits down. As long as you do not allow them to reach their potential by feeding the richer one's, u will manage to keep them down..keep going and keep one quater of our indian community down always, forever...now read the reality:

Tell me when does one become an Entrepreneur. When a raising passion to outdo one's limits comes and that passion to go in unknown and capture the heights undiscoved.

By asking for rich quotas, you are killing that oppertunity of Dalits to realize their potential and develop the potentail to go into unknown. All of world's technological development has occured in last 60 years in which generations of Dalit's have got reservation. Why did they not succeed at all, not even a single Entrepreneur??????????????????????????????????????Ask yourself and you will get the answer

Please read 'OSHO's' lecture on meritocracy and book 'Beware of Socialism' and realise the truth. I hope you will when you will cleanse your head of hatred and go deep inside your own being which is devoid of these divisions.Cheers

Why I have to read OSHO ! Read the current situation! I am not a blind follower my dear friends. try your tricks elswhere!lol!

I dont think it makes sense to give reservation more than once in a person's life. If the state has given him one opportunity through reservation, that's it, the state has empowered him and now, it should wash its hands off. What the person does with that opportunity, whether he uses if or fritters it away, is entirely in his own hands. If a Dalit is given reservation at undergraduate admissions, then I dont see why that student will not be able to get into a PG course or become an entrepreneur (considering that reservations at UG admission has empowered him). Giving him reservations at PG admissions to one who has availed it at UG admissions is unfair. If you do so, then it is like saying giving him reservation at UG admissions did not work.

Also, the creamy layer does not need reservation. Why? Because of its very name. If its got all the cream, then it'll be able to compete on itself. Making reservations for them too is ludicrous.

Hi,

Whatever you said is true or might be true. But ell me how is the reservation of the creamy layer help you to achieve. It is achieved with hard work, risk taking and with some amount of material in the back and head.

Easy life will never grow. If you want to become strong you will have to hard exercise, you cannot get the good health because of reservation.

Hope this dawns on you.

The Ant & Grasshopper
OLD VERSION...

The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer long building his house and laying up supplies for the winter. The grasshopper thinks the ant's a fool and laughs & dances & plays the summer away. Come winter, the ant is warm and well fed. The grasshopper has no food or shelter so he dies out in the cold.

MODERN VERSION (excellent)

The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building his house and laying up supplies for the winter. The grasshopper thinks the ant's a fool and laughs & dances & plays the summer away. Come winter, the shivering grasshopper calls a press conference and demands to know why the ant should be allowed to be warm and well fed while others are cold and starving.

NDTV, AAJ TAK,ZEE NEWS ,BBC, CNN - BREAKING NEWS---show up to provide pictures of the shivering grasshopper next to a video of the ant in his comfortable Home with a table filled with food.

The World is stunned by the sharp contrast. How can this be that this poor grasshopper is allowed to suffer so?

Arundhati Roy stages a demonstration in front of the ant's house. Medha Patkar goes on a fast along with other grasshoppers demanding that grasshoppers be relocated to warmer climates during winter. Amnesty International and Koffi Annan criticize the Indian Government for not Upholding the fundamental rights of the grasshopper. The Internet is flooded with online petitions seeking support to the grasshopper (many promising Heaven and Everlasting Peace for prompt support as against the wrath of God for non-compliance) . Opposition MP's stage a walkout.Left parties call for "Bharat Bandh" in West Bengal and Kerala demanding a Judicial Enquiry.CPM in Kerala immediately passes a law preventing Ants from working hard in the heat so as to bring about equality of poverty among ants and grasshoppers.

The ant is fined for failing to comply with POTAGA and, having nothing left to pay his retroactive taxes, his home is confiscated by the Government and handed over to the grasshopper in a ceremony covered by NDTV. Arundhati Roy calls it "a triumph of justice". Lalu calls it 'Socialistic Justice'.
CPM
calls it the 'revolutionary resurgence of the downtrodden' Koffi Annan invites the grasshopper to address the UN General Assembly.

Many years later... The ant has since migrated to the US and set up a multi billion dollar company in silicon valley. 100s of grasshoppers still die of starvation despite reservation somewhere in India ...

As a result, by loosing lot of hard working ants and feeding the grasshoppers India continues to remain a developing country...

Unknown said...

these upper castes only know about grasshoppers and ants they dnt want to see the actual humanity.........

Shame on these
words like CHAMAR have become their birth right.

am a pro-reservation guy.

If the genuine poor quota beneficiaries are not benefited by this quota regime, India will never ever gonna fulfill its social equality. Rich OBC/BC/SC/ST will remain always richer generation after generations and the poor ones always poorer. people like u support it coz deep inside u is the shit that doesn't want the quota system to do its intended genuine purpose.
